Don't We All?

I was parked in front of the mall wiping off my car. I had just come from the car wash and was waiting for my wife to get out of work. Coming my way from across the parking lot was what society would consider a bum. From the looks of him, he had no car, no home, no clean clothes, and no money. There are times when you feel generous but there are other times that you just don't want to be bothered. This was one of those "don't want to be bothered times." "I hope he doesn't ask me for any money," I thought. He didn't. He came and sat on the curb in front of the bus stop but he didn't look like he could have enough money to even ride the bus. After a few minutes he spoke. "That's a very pretty car," he said. He was ragged but he had an air of dignity around him. His scraggly blond beard keeps more than his face warm. I said, "Thanks," and continued wiping off my car.

He sat there quietly as I worked. The expected plea for money never came. As the silence between us widened something inside said, "Ask him if he needs any help." I was sure that he would say "yes" but I held true to the inner voice. "Do you need any help?" I asked. He answered in three simple but profound words that I shall never forget. We often look for wisdom in great men and women. We expect it from those of higher learning and accomplishments.

I expected nothing but an outstretched grimy hand. He spoke the three words that shook me. "Don't we all?" he said.

I was feeling high and mighty, successful and important, above a bum in the street, until those three words hit me like a twelve gauge shotgun. Don't we all? I needed help. Maybe not for bus fare or a place to sleep, but I needed help. I reached in my wallet and gave him not only enough for bus fare, but enough to get a warm meal and shelter for the day. Those three little words still ring true. No matter how much you have, no matter how much you have accomplished, you need help too. No matter how little you have, no matter how loaded you are with problems, even without money or a place to sleep, you can give help.

Even if it's just a compliment, you can give that. You never know when you may see someone that appears to have it all. They are waiting on you to give them what they don't have. A different perspective on life, a glimpse at something beautiful, a respite from daily chaos, that only you through a torn world can see. Maybe the man was just a homeless stranger wandering the streets. Maybe he was more than that.

Maybe he was sent by a power that is great and wise, to minister to a soul too comfortable in them.

Maybe God looked down, called an Angel, dressed him like a bum, and then said, "Go minister to that man cleaning the car, that man needs help." Don't we all?

wow...
a very inspiring story..it kind of knock me in the head too..although I'm trying my best to put aside my problems, put it in a box, lock it tight and throw the key into the sea..trying to pretend like nothing happen, and trying to put a happy face 24/7,just so that people don't look down on me, look me with their pity faces, like there's a word 'charity-case' carved on my forehead..although I might think I don't need any help, but don't we all??sooner or later, the tide will make the key come back to the shore..moral of the story, sometimes we need to face the things we most scared of..the truth..all we have to do is help yourself before you help others, always remember where you stand, and don't look down on others by the first look.

3) don't judge a book by its cover
4) just think positive
5) all problem can be settled down by help from other party

Awesome post!I read somewhere that we all help ourselves everyday in one or another way but have we ever asked ourselves that how many times we offer help to others in a day? Sitting at home, expecting parents that they’ll brings us everything at table, going outside visiting friends but still not offering the sincere views.Life runs too fast because we make it run that way only!!I simply loved the last line of your post.As we live together,we all are dependent on one another, but it is our selfishness which doesn't allow us to think of others.

great story that can reveals us how much the word 'help' means in our life. this story remind me to someone who so close to me, she has said sometimes that has same value with the story. and i thing i want to share to others about my perspective to both story. people are made by God in their own ability t do something really good than others because no want can do everything well except good. we born to complete each others. just like women who made for men, and in our student life also we can see that in a group, it was enough if only one person excellent in a subject because they can teach it the other group members. it was trus 'EVERYONE NEEDS HELP'
'Don't we all?'

Don't we all?it's a very nice story... Like we know don't judge a book by its cover. Because sometimes may be we had judge a person in wrong way but actually him or her is very kind heart person. Eventhough we had solve our own problem but we still will have some problem to solve and sometimes we need other person help. We also have to remember that GOD always watch us and GOD will always test us. so,don't do bad things...huhu... We also have to think positively like jaja said. With positive thinker will help us to solve the problem...

Aha.....A perfect story. Full of values. I am not going to list it because my friends already did it. All I want to say is, just remember where do we come from. We can't stand alone by our self. So please...please... and please don't be too arrogant. Don't let people call you Mr./Ms. snob. Its useless being snobbish. That's all from Me.

A wisdom story..It's true though, everyone need's help..Well, sometimes we get the wrong impression of the word 'help' but throughout the story, from my perspective, the phrase 'don't we all need help' surely means each and everyone of us has its own problems no matter big or small..What matters is how we handle it, and how do we help others..

It's was a very great story to read. It's teach us a value of this life.In this life the world is not just involved us.All of us need each others.Don't we all?.
We should not judge the others by their appearances or academic qualification.Even the homeless stranger can think very good about the perspective of life. So,why not us be like him??

moral of the story:
~think positive
~don't judge a book by it's cover
~everyone needs each others

dont we all?
its a moving story. i wonder if i had been the one to encounter the situation, how would i react?
we tend to judge people on how they dress and look. who knows the ruggedly dressed guy that sit beside us on the bus is so much better than us?
it is also important to be humble and down-to-earth every time. no one likes to befriends with ignorant and spoiled person. for example, even though that someone is graduated from the top university in the world but having a negative perspective in life, it can be a real turn off.
it is not late for us to start changing the way we view people.

salam, everyone in this world need somebody or someone to help them. this story had prove it. it's not like we can stand on our feet all the time. sometimes, in our life we need someone to help us to solve our problem or just to hear about it. so, helping each other is important things in our life and it had became a part of our life as we had heard about it from our parents since we are kids.

No body in this world are perfect. Before we born, it had written that people need each other. This is a nice story. Sometimes story like this will give awareness to the people whom snobbish. This story is fulfilling with the moral values.
1)Don’t look people with “one eyes”
2)As an imperfect people, we can’t stay on our feet always, there is sometimes that we need the helps.
3)Don’t too snobbish with what we have.
4)Always think positive with others

from that story, we can see the two different people thinking. first person who was wiping his car another is person that look like a beggar. the first person think that the beggar is going to give him a problem. about money, need a ride and else. he always think a bad thing that can get from beggar. so he just pretending to be good with the beggar. but different with the beggar. he just want to sit there and talk to the guy. actually he want nothing from the guy. so from my opinion, we cannot judge person just look from the cover. we have to know them deep before we judge someone.. thanks.

Good day everyone. This story really captured my thought. A simple sentence that reflects on our personality. Here I am in this university depending on my family and friends to survive. This shows how I am helpless here but yet I still have some things that others don’t have. Helping is easy but it is just up to us whether we want to help others or just leave them in their condition. The story really taught me many things in which helping others is important especially if we are capable too and don’t ever judge a person on the way they look because they might have something more in them which we don’t have. Thank you for reading my comment.
